It goes without saying that building a house is not for the faint of heart. It’s a rigorous process that is filled with seemingly endless decisions that begin before even partnering with a builder. Felicia and Randi were homeowners in Western Wisconsin that had two choices, now that they were empty-nesters. They could either remodel their current home to have the features they wanted in their forever home or they could build it.
Choosing the Right Contractor for Their Dream Home Build
After meeting with local contractors to discuss both options, they ultimately chose the new construction option. They found their perfect plot of land nestled near the Rush River in Baldwin, Wisconsin. It’s sprinkled with mature trees and the perfect place to appreciate a country sunset. During the contractor interview process, they learned about how each would approach their project and the timelines involved. Something Randi & Felicia found fascinating was that local contractors could even differ in their opinion of the orientation of their home and where the driveway should be situated.
After agreeing that Lindus Construction could execute their vision, Felicia and Randi had seemingly endless decisions to make. While some were easy like timeless white kitchen cabinets, a luxurious soaking tub, and a shed for working on cars, others required more contemplation. Like most couples building a home, the exterior features were something they were open to guidance on. They stressed the need for features such as their roofing, siding, windows, and gutters to be long-lasting without consuming so much of their budget that the interior finishes became a point of compromise. Here’s a list of what our remodeling experts suggested to fulfill these criteria:
Lifetime Roofing By GAF
Unlike builder-grade materials, GAF roofing offers a 50-year, non-prorated warranty on both labor and materials. Installing GAF roofing on their home offered unparalleled peace of mind. The type of shingles Randi & Felicia opted for was Timberline Ultra HD®. These architectural shingles provide the thickest, most ultra-dimensional wood-shake look for a roof. They also have the best possible fire rating, something that will assist in lowering insurance premiums. There’s no worry of unsightly algae growing on the roof because it comes direct from the manufacturer with StainGuard® protection.
SeasonGuard Energy-Efficient Windows
When you’ve got a picturesque country view, you crave windows that allow you to showcase it as much as possible. This was a factor that weighed into the decision to opt for SeasonGuard windows. Exclusive to Lindus Construction, these triple pane windows offer top-level energy efficiency. In addition, they come with a transferable manufacturer’s guarantee that even covers glass breakage.
LP® SmartSide® Siding Installation:
LP® SmartSide® was installed on Randi & Felicia’s home in a warm, soft brown hue. Chocolate colored shakes provided the perfect contrast and tied in well with the roofing color. (Side note-we love working with other Midwestern companies and LP® SmartSide® has locations in Two Harbors, MN, Hayward, WI and Tomahawk, WI.) The material is preferred over fiber cement siding for its beauty, durability, and exceptional warranties. Check out our guide to choosing the best siding color for your home.
Now moved into their new home, Felicia had this to say as she reflected on the project: “From the day they started digging, to the day they handed us the keys to our new home, they have taken great care of us. Every department and every work crew Lindus provided us with was superb. The guys were super friendly, very respectful, and were aware of everything going on all round them.
I am so happy we chose Lindus Construction/Midwest LeafGuard®. My husband and I couldn’t be any happier with the outcome of our beautifully built new home. So, I just want to give a big thank you and shout-out to Lindus Construction/Midwest LeafGuard®.”
